What’s On in Windsor in December

by Macca

Wondering what’s on in Windsor in December? Enjoy Christmas lights, festive markets, family events and seasonal fun all month.

We absolutely love Windsor in December. The town comes alive with Christmas cheer, and the whole place feels so magical. Maybe that’s to do with all the mulled wine and cider you find everywhere! If twinkling lights are you thing then Windsor high street looks lovely with Windsor Castle in the background.

With the last leaves fallen, Windsor Great Park and the Long Walk become serene landscapes, perfect for bracing winter walks. I know it’s cold, but I really enjoy exploring the park when it’s all misty or icy – the photos really look extra special. As darkness falls earlier, the town comes alive with cosy charm: warming fires in traditional pubs, slow dinners, and visits to elegant cafés for hot chocolate that hits the spot.

Around here, December really is something special. Windsor Castle sparkles with decorations – I’ll never get bored of seeing all the Christmas lights and trees draped all over the castle and in town. I feel like the Royals really know how to celebrate Christmas!

We love popping down to the festive markets, wandering among the artisan stalls, grabbing seasonal treats, and soaking up the cheerful buzz under the twinkling lights. There’s always something going on for families too – workshops at the Castle Learning Centre where the kids can make decorations or get a taste of a Victorian Christmas, which I think is brilliant fun. On a crisp evening, nothing beats hopping on a horse-drawn carriage, strolling along lantern-lit trails, or watching the excitement at the ice rink if the weather plays ball.

Living here, I always feel like Windsor turns into a storybook in December – cosy, magical, and full of little moments that make you want to linger just a bit longer in the cool air and warm glow.
