I can’t tell you how much we love Asian food

Disclaimer: We will always fly the flag for local independent restaurants first. While there are some chain restaurants listed here, and while they are good and you’ll always know what you’ll get, independent restaurants are so much more authentic and unique – every one has a little story to tell. That, and they really need local support much more than any chain restaurant.

Non Café (Vietnamese)

Address: 33 St. Leonards Rd

non cafe
This is such a fantastic spot for Vietnamese food

Non Café is one of the newest restaurants in Windsor and we love it here. The Vietnamese food is so fresh, with amazing mixes of spices, herbs and flavours. We’ve been to Vietnam a few times ourselves, and we promise you this is as authentic as it gets. They even have proper egg coffee! (If you know, you know…)

The team running Non Café made us feel at home straight away, announcing ‘welcome to Vietnam in Windsor!’ as we sat down. The beef pho was super tasty, and the vermicelli dish was so light and fresh with amazing lemongrass flavours on the grilled pork. The restaurant is pretty inside, with traditional lanterns adding to the ambience. It really is one of our favourite spots in town.

Reason to eat here: Authentic Vietnamese food cooked with love and care. A big bowl of pho is just what you need on a cold day. Their Vietnamese coffees are epic too.

Red Noodle Bar (Chinese/noodles)

Address: 50 High Street

These guys do all of their own noodles

Red Noodle Bar is the type of place you’d easily walk past thinking it’s a tourist trap, but the food is actually decent. It’s a fast-food style place – you order at the counter and they bring the food over to you. I had the sliced beef noodle soup here last time and it was delicious. The broth was quite light, but the beef was very succulent and tender. The best bit about the dish was the homemade pulled noodles. These weren’t your out-of-a-packet jobby, but proper homemade noodles. It really made the dish.

Just as a heads up, Red Noodle Bar doesn’t serve any booze which is a bit of a shame, but if you’re looking for a quick lunch spot then I’d recommend it.

Reason to eat here: A relatively cheap, quick bite for lunch, but with very generous portion sizes. The owner is lovely too.

Misugo (Japanese)

Address: 83 St Leonard’s Road

The bento box lunch deal is really good value for money

This was the first sushi place I tried in Windsor. I took my mum as a birthday treat at lunchtime. It was lovely! It’s a small, unassuming restaurant with a welcoming feel. The staff were very friendly.

Visiting at lunchtime, we decided we either wanted sushi or a bento box. Well, the bento box lunches are such amazing value, we couldn’t resist! Inside mine were six cucumber maki, six different nigiri, five generous slices of tuna and salmon sashimi, an Asian slaw, tempura vegetables, plus a miso soup on the side. It was all light and tasty, with super fresh fish.

Beyond the lunchtime bentos and vast sushi list, there’s a huge Japanese menu to work your way through. Katsu curries are popular, as are the udon noodle dishes, ramen and various types of teriyaki. I can’t wait to return to try some other dishes soon.

Reason to eat here: The lunchtime bento box is fantastic value for money, especially as it comes with sashimi.

Ichiban (Japanese)

Address: 83 St Leonard’s Road

sushi platter

Next door neighbours with Misugo is another of the best Japanese restaurants in Windsor; Ichiban! If you’re trying to choose between them, it’s a struggle. They’re both great! It’s often said that quality breeds quality, and perhaps that’s what’s happened here.

It’s another small restaurant, with comfortable seating and friendly service. You’ll find a huge menu of sushi, from yellowtail nigiri and salmon sashimi, to spicy dragon rolls and duck hand rolls.

The menu is broad with lots more Japanese classics including gyozas, ramen, teriyaki, udon and katsu. Perhaps confusingly, there’s more than just Japanese on the menu. You’ll find a range of Thai dishes (curries, Pad Thai), as well as some Chinese classics. However, this is great if you have several people in your group fancying different cuisines!

The bento boxes are great here too, especially if you can’t decide what you fancy. They come with a main item plus miso soup, a vegetable gyoza, cucumber maki, pumpkin croquette, rice and a seasonal salad.

Duck and Dim Sum (Chinese)

Address: 69 Victoria St

Duck and Dim Sum is a brilliant little spot that does exactly what it says on the tin – juicy duck dishes and delicate dim sum. The menu leans more modern Cantonese, with steamed buns, crispy wontons and their signature aromatic duck that comes out glistening and golden. It’s ideal for sharing a few small plates, especially with their range of dumplings and spring rolls. The interior is bright and casual, with friendly service and quick turnaround, making it great for a midweek dinner or relaxed weekend lunch. The menu is fairly extensive and very traditional.

1423 China Kitchen (Chinese)

Address: 4 Church Lane

Tucked away on a quiet street just off the high street, 1423 China Kitchen is a bit of a hidden gem in Windsor. This family-run restaurant offers a warm welcome and a proper Chinese menu that goes beyond the usual takeaway staples. Think sizzling hot plates, slow-cooked braised pork belly, and flavour-packed mapo tofu. The portions are generous, and the flavours are bold – perfect if you’re after something more traditional and hearty. It’s a great option if you’re craving proper Chinese comfort food in a relaxed setting. Also, it is on a really cute cobblestone street that’s just moments from Windsor Castle, so it’s a lovely spot for date night.

Yangtze Chinese Restaurant

Address: 36-37 Thames St

Located right in the centre of town and in the shadows of Windsor Castle, Yangtze is one of the more traditional Chinese restaurants in Windsor. It’s been around for years and has a loyal local following. The menu covers all the bases – crispy duck, chow mein, sizzling beef, sweet and sour – but everything’s cooked fresh and served piping hot. The décor is classic and a little old-school, but in a nostalgic, charming kind of way. If you’re looking for a classic British-Chinese restaurant that delivers on flavour and familiarity, Yangtze is a solid bet. They also do a solid all-you-can-eat buffet if you’re looking for value for money.

Intoku (Japanese)

Address: Windsor Royal Station

ramen noodles soup

This popular Japanese restaurant in Windsor town centre, started as a small street food stall in Manchester. After successes up north, the owners opened their branch in Windsor in 2020. It’s in a prime location within Windsor Royal Station. There’s guaranteed footfall, so I’d always recommend booking if you want to visit. The restaurant itself is very pretty, with a flower wall, pastel pink banquette seating and fluffy Japanese blossom decorating the space.  It’s one that looks the part for a special occasion!

The menu brings a fresh, modern twist to Japanese cuisine. The rainbow dragon is one of the best-sellers, featuring salmon, tuna, sea bass, ebi, cucumber, avocado and teriyaki sauce. Nigiri lovers will appreciate the quality of the fish, which is consistently fresh and delicately cut.

If you’re in the mood for something warm, Intoku’s bao buns, chicken karaage and katsu curries are popular for good reason. The portions are generous, the presentation is smart, and there’s a clear attention to detail that makes dining here feel like a treat. The showpieces are the sushi boat platters, the largest of which is the 66 piece Shoku platter. What better way to celebrate a special occasion than by feasting on fresh sushi! It’s one of the most family friendly options too. I always see big groups celebrating birthdays, with lots of kids enjoying the food!

Banana Tree (pan-Asian)

Address: 31-32 Royal Station Parade, Thames St

Banana Tree is a lively pan-Asian restaurant serving up bold flavours inspired by the street food of Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and beyond. It’s a great option if you’ve got a group who fancy different things – from Thai green curry and laksa soup to Vietnamese chicken wings and wok-tossed noodles. The interior has a fun, buzzy vibe with hanging lanterns and colourful murals, and the cocktails are well worth a look too. Being part of a small chain, it’s a reliable spot for casual dining in central Windsor with consistently good food and service.

Giggling Squid (Thai)

Address: 30 Thames St

Bright, stylish and family-friendly, Giggling Squid is a great option for modern Thai food in Windsor. The interior is full of floral wallpaper and soft pastel tones – perfect for a relaxed lunch or a dinner with friends. The menu includes Thai favourites like massaman curry, pad Thai and salt and pepper squid, plus some lighter tapas-style plates if you want to mix and match. While it is a national chain, the food is tasty, the service is always friendly, and it’s in a fab location near the river.

Thai Square (Thai)

Address: 29 Thames St

Thai Square is just next door to Giggling Squid and offers a more traditional take on Thai cuisine. The interior is elegant, with carved wooden features and warm lighting, making it feel a bit more formal. You’ll find all the Thai staples here – fragrant green and red curries, spicy papaya salad, and pad see ew. The flavours are bold and well-balanced, and the presentation is always smart. If you’re looking for a slightly more refined Thai dining experience in Windsor, Thai Square is a great shout.

Sushi Point (Japanese)

Address: 4 William Street

sushi takeaway windsor

While you can dine in at Sushi Point, I’d say it’s more of a takeaway joint. It’s located moments from the hustle and bustle of Peascod Street, and a short walk from all of Windsor’s sights. You could easily pick up some sushi and take it down to the river for a lovely picnic lunch!

This small chain has a no-frills setup, but the fish is good quality and the prices are reasonable. The salmon nigiri and spicy tuna rolls are solid choices, and there are plenty of vegetarian options too. Plus, if you’re craving something more substantial, you’ll find Japanese favourites like katsu curry and beef teriyaki on the menu. If you’re grabbing a takeaway, I’d recommend the salmon and avocado sushi box. It’s packed full of delicious items!

Itsu (Japanese)

Address: 26 Peascod Street

takeaway sushi in windsor

A popular chain, with branches across the country, Itsu offers eat in or take away options. I’ve always found the quality to be reliable, and I like that the branches have a range of sauces out, so you can customise your dishes a little!

It’s a great option if you’re looking for healthy food in Windsor. The menu includes sushi boxes, poke bowls and noodle soups. One of my favourite dishes is the miso salmon rice box salad. It’s got all the tasty flavours of Asia, and is substantial for a main dish. I also really like the chilli chicken gyoza noodles, which includes udon noodles, vegetables and a chicken broth.

Kokoro (Japanese)

Address: 11 Peascod Street

Looking for takeaway sushi places in Windsor? Well, this Japanese and Korean fast food option is tucked away just off Peascod Street, in the heart of Windsor. It’s a pretty big chain – you may have spotted branches if you’ve spent time in London or other major cities. Food quality varies, but you’ll find a lot of Japanese favourites on the menu, and it’s an easy spot to grab food to go.

There are a lot of warm dishes on offer, including katsu curry, udon ramen, yakisoba and teriyaki. Alternatively, the pre-packed sushi boxes are a handy option when you’re out and about.
